Her research centers on novel materials for clean energy, specifically Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and high-temperature oxidation reactions. Prior to this, she served as an Assistant Professor at the SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, India, from July 2018 to November 2019, where she focused on catalyst activity and waste-to-energy conversion. Additionally, Dr. Anantharaman briefly worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Global Institute of Technology in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India, in August 2015, concentrating on chemical process calculations.

Dr. Anjana P. Anantharaman has secured several prestigious grants for her research initiatives. She is the Principal Investigator for a SERB grant focused on the development of single-crystal pyrochlore nanomaterial for intermediate temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC), amounting to ₹24,64,000. Additionally, she received an ISRO grant for catalyst development aimed at hydrogen peroxide dissociation for monopropellant thrusters, totaling ₹24,97,130. Furthermore, she leads a project funded by NITW to develop a nano-structured catalyst for carbon monoxide oxidation, with a budget of ₹5,00,000.
