Assist Prof Dr. Cinzia Bragato, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy

Cinzia Bragato was born on October 12, 1980, and has built a distinguished career in the field of biological sciences, particularly in neuroscience and cellular biology. She completed her degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Trieste in 2005 with a thesis focusing on the role of the SMN protein in Spinal Muscular Atrophy, under the supervision of Prof. Enrico Tongiorgi and Dr. Giorgio Battaglia. Her academic journey continued with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Milano-Bicocca, which she obtained in 2021. Her doctoral research, carried out at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta, involved generating and characterizing a zebrafish model of Pompe disease to test the efficacy of a new therapeutic molecule.

Throughout her career, Cinzia has gained extensive experience working with animal models, particularly zebrafish, which she has been using since 2012. Her expertise includes cloning techniques, immunochemistry, biochemistry, microinjection, and the use of various laboratory equipment such as microtomes, ultramicrotomes, and cryostats. She has a solid foundation in molecular and cellular biology, and her work in the Muscle Cell Biology Laboratory at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta has significantly contributed to both the diagnostic workflow and ongoing research programs, particularly in neuromuscular diseases and metabolic myopathies like Type II Glycogenosis.
