Dr. Amjad Iqbal earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia, where he completed his thesis on the development of deep reinforcement learning-based resource allocation techniques in cloud radio access networks under the guidance of Prof. Mau-Luen Tham and Prof. Chang Yoong Choon. Prior to this, he obtained his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar, Pakistan. His master’s thesis focused on the performance analysis of Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier (UFMC) in 5G cognitive radio-based sensor networks (CSNs), supervised by Prof. Syed Waqar Shah. Dr. Iqbal’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from CECOS University of Information Technology and Emerging Sciences, Peshawar, Pakistan, where he developed an auto rail gate cross system using infrared sensors for his undergraduate thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Ibrar Ullah.

Dr. Amjad Iqbal is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Carleton University, Canada, where he specializes in deep reinforcement learning-based resource allocation optimization for 5G and beyond networks. His work at Carleton University is conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Gabriel Wainer and Dr. Ala’a Al-Habashna. Prior to this, Dr. Iqbal was a Graduate Research Assistant at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia, from February 2019 to July 2022, where he focused on applying deep reinforcement learning to resource allocation in 5G communications. His academic career also includes lecturer positions at Peshawar College of Engineering (PCE) affiliated with UET Peshawar, Pakistan, where he taught courses such as Data Communication, Communication Systems, and Electronic Devices and Circuits during 2017. Subsequently, he served as a Lecturer at the Government Technical College, Kohat, Pakistan, from January 2018 to January 2019, where he instructed courses on Data Communication, Electric Circuits I (DC), Electric Circuits II (AC), and Power Electronics, and conducted lab sessions for Power Electronics and Electric Circuits I.

Dr. Amjad Iqbal has been recognized for his academic excellence and research potential through several prestigious awards and scholarships. In 2015, he was honored with the PM Laptop Scheme Award, which acknowledged his outstanding academic achievements. His pursuit of advanced studies was further supported by a fully funded Ph.D. scholarship from 2019 to 2022, enabling him to develop cutting-edge techniques in deep reinforcement learning for cloud radio access networks. Currently, Dr. Iqbal is the recipient of a 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship (2022-2024) at Carleton University, Canada, where he continues his research in optimizing resource allocation for 5G and beyond networks.
